Lawrence DeMarzo
Acting Director, New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs
In September 2007, Lawrence DeMarzo became Acting Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs, one of 10 divisions within the State Office of the Attorney General. The Division is responsible for protecting New Jersey consumers and for enforcing the laws intended to ensure a fair consumer marketplace. The Division also operates 43 licensing boards that oversee and regulate more than 80 professions and occupations.
Prior to becoming Acting Director of the Division, DeMarzo served as the Division Director of Consumer Relations since January 2006. In that capacity, DeMarzo supervised operation of the Division’s professional licensing boards and committees, acted as liaison between the boards and other agencies of state government and oversaw operations of the Division Enforcement Bureau.
Before joining the Division of Consumer Affairs, DeMarzo served in 2004 and 2005 as a senior policy advisor to then-Acting Governor Richard Codey. He served as Codey’s Senate Chief of Staff from 1981 through 1993.
In addition to his experience in state government, DeMarzo worked as a director of public affairs for Cablevision of New Jersey and as Assistant to the President of Community Education Centers, a leading provider of rehabilitative services to criminal justice systems throughout the nation.
DeMarzo, 55, is a graduate of Rutgers University and Seton Hall University School of Law.
