Continuing Education Sponsors Needed
for
Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm & Locksmith Advisory Committee

The Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm & Locksmith Advisory Committee is formulating their Continuing Education Program for its Licensees and is in need of individuals, associations and/or organizations interested in sponsoring continuing education courses, seminars and programs.

A Licensee will be required to achieve 36 (hours) continuing education credits over the next three (3) years, September 1st, 2007 through August 31st, 2010, in order to qualify for a renewal in 2010. The 36 hours is required for each license you hold - Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm and/or Locksmith.

A Sponsor may be an individual, association, organization or a formulated group of individuals interested in sponsoring a course or group of courses for Licensees. A Sponsor will be required to submit a registration fee of $100 upon the submission of a Sponsor Application to the Committee. As a sponsor, you may be the sole instructor or you may have a list of instructors that will teach under your sponsorship. You may submit one course to teach or multiple courses; you must, of course, provide the number of instructional hours you will spend on each course, as well as who the instructor(s) will be for a particular course. The Sponsor, using the application, must provide a brief title for the course, a course outline and a resume for each instructor. The courses submitted may fall within the following categories - Technical, including Lock Devices, Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm and Electronic Security; Safety, Laws & Codes and Business. If a course is for a specific trade, it should be so noted with BA (Burglar), FA (Fire) or LS (Locksmith).

The Continuing Education Subcommittee will review your application and inform you of your approval to teach continuing education, as well as providing approvals for the instructors you have submitted. In an effort to control an orderly approval process, the Committee is requesting a one-time submission - submit your entire program all at once. If changes, additions or deletions, are required, the Sponsor will be expected to pay an additional $100. A listing of all Approved Sponsors will be available upon request from the Advisory Committee Office for distribution to the Licensees. A kit including the "Do’s and Don’ts of teaching Continuing Education will be provided to each sponsor along with Sign-In and Sign-Out Sheets, Hot Issues, Things You Should Be Aware Of and a Sample Certificate of Completion.

There are a few mandatory Continuing Education courses for Licensees which you may provide course submissions for - A Licensee shall complete a minimum of one continuing education credit per triennial registration period in the Barrier Free Subcode, N.J.A.C. 5:23-7; one continuing education credit in the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, N.J.A.C. 5:23, exclusive of the Barrier Free Subcode, and one continuing education credit in the Americans with Disabilities Act Code 36 C.F.R. s 1191. A Licensee seeking credits for a Burglar Alarm License shall complete a minimum of three (3) credits of continuing education in smoke detection systems. The remainder of the 36 continuing education credits may be from a variety of trade-related subjects.
