How do I update my address or report a name change?

Do I qualify to sit for the certified public accountant?s (C.P.A.) exam? How do I find out if my college is accredited?

I just passed the last part of the C.P.A. exam. When will I get a license application?
When you have met New Jersey?s education requirements, C.P.A. Exam Services will send us your official file. Upon receipt of this information, a licensure application will be mailed to you.

I am unable to get my previous employer(s) to complete a Statement of Experience. What should I do?
If after you make a good faith effort to contact your previous employer(s) and you cannot get him/her to complete a Statement of Experience for you, then you can write a letter yourself. The letter must explain why you are writing the letter, what you did for the employer and during what time frame. The letter must be notarized.

Will the Board contact me with updates on the progress of my application?
No. You must contact the Board?s office to obtain information about the progress of your application. When you contact the Board, tell the staff member the name that you have listed on your application.

- How do I register my C.P.A. firm with the Board?
Contact the Board?s office at 973-504-6380 and request an application.

- How do I reinstate/reactivate my license?
Send a request to the Board via fax or mail requesting the reinstatement/reactivation of your license. Please include your name as registered with the Board, your current mailing address, current phone number, the status that you wish to change to (active or inactive-paid), and your license number. The appropriate paperwork will be mailed to you after your file has been reviewed.

Continuing Education:
- What are the continuing professional education (C.P.E.) requirements for certified public accountants? How about for registered municipal accountants?
New Jersey C.P.A.s should refer to the following regulations: N.J.A.C.13:29, subchapter 6. New Jersey registered municipal accountants should refer to N.J.S.A.45:2B-71, along with N.J.A.C.13:29, subchapter 6.

- I just received my C.P.A. license. When am I required to start taking C.P.E. units?
You are required to begin taking C.P.E. units during the first triennial period following the triennial period in which you were initially licensed. For example, if you were licensed May 2006 (1/1/06 - 12/31/08) you were required to begin taking C.P.E. units in January 2009 (1/1/09 - 12/31/011).

- How do I know if a C.P.E. provider is acceptable to the Board?
The N.J. State Board of Accountancy currently accepts C.P.E. from providers that are licensed with either New Jersey or NASBA. Refer to the following websites to determine if the provider is licensed with either the State or NASBA.
