• Look for a service center that participates in Motorist Assurance Program (MAP). These facilities strive to provide customers with the finest products and services in the industry, and offer written service recommendations, estimates and warranties.

  • Call the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs' Consumer Action Hotline at 973-504-6200 or 800-242-5846, to see if the service center you have selected has received any complaints.

  • A service center must give you a written estimate when you physically present your car for repair. The estimate must include a detailed breakdown of parts and labor necessary to complete the repair, prior to beginning work.

  • Service centers are not permitted to start work on your vehicle until you sign an authorization. You may waive your right to an estimate by signing a written waiver.

  • You may ask to have the replaced parts returned to you upon completion of the repair, if you request the parts before the work commences and they are not too large to be returned.

  • You are entitled to a legible invoice with a written copy of all guarantees.
