OPRA - Open Public Records Act

The New Jersey shore has welcomed generations of visitors for a safe and memorable summer. We've been working to make your visit safe and enjoyable. Here are a few tips for you:

  • Amusement Games - The arcade games along our boardwalks are required to post their state-issued license, the rules of the game including details on how to win specific prizes and the cost per play. The Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission ensure that players have a fair opportunity to win at these skill games. Learn more.
  • Pedestrian/Bicycling Safety - Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists each have a role to play in safely sharing our roadways. State law requires motorists to stop for pedestrian at marked crosswalks and at intersection. Pedestrians need to look both ways for oncoming traffic before stepping into a roadway. Bicyclists under age 17 are required to wear helmets and lights are required when riding at night. Learn More.
  • Sports Safety - If you roll on skates, in-line skates or skateboards, you are required to wear a helmet if you are under age 17. Helmets are a safety device for anyone regardless of age, and other safety gear is available when playing summer sports. Learn more.
  • Toy Safety - We check the list of federally-recalled toys to make sure these toys are not available for purchase or as prizes. Here are some toy-safety tips for you.
  • Water Safety - Whether it's the Atlantic Ocean, a lake, or a swimming pool, water safety should always be a summertime priority. Learn more about being safe near and in the water.
