Reminder to All Amusement Game Licensees

All Amusement Game licenses expire on December 31. Amusement games cannot be operated without a current valid license or risk being subjected to fines and penalties. It is recommended to submit your Amusement Game License applications to the municipal clerk’s office as early as possible to avoid any disruptions or penalties with your operation of amusement games.”

Notice Concerning Sale of Super Bowl Boxes and Tournament Brackets/Pools

In recent years the Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission ("Commission") has had numerous inquiries from registered organizations asking about selling chances to win prize(s) on the quarterly and final scores of the Super Bowl (selling boxes) or on choosing teams to advance in tournaments/playoffs (NCAA basketball tournament/NBA or NHL playoffs).  Please be advised that such games are not permitted under the New Jersey Raffle Licensing Law or the regulations governing the conduct of raffles.

Your organization is reminded that it may conduct only the types of raffles set forth in the

Commission's regulations, and those raffles must be conducted in accord with the Raffles Licensing Law and those regulations.  Games such as Super Bowl boxes or March Madness brackets are not authorized under the Raffles Licensing Law.  If an organization were to conduct those types of games and retain a portion of the proceeds from the sale of rights to participate ("taking a cut"), the organization would be conducting an illegal gambling event. This could result in a criminal prosecution of members in charge and may result in the revocation or suspension of the organization's registration.

The Commission continues to work diligently to assist you in raising funds to support your organization's mission and is available to answer questions on this or any other issue.  Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the Commission staff at the telephone number above or send your inquiries to AskGames@dca.njoag.gov

NOTICE

The Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission will begin rolling out a new online portal for all license, registration, and renewal applications, reports, fee payments, and amendments to licenses and registrations.

The Commission anticipates a mid-fall 2024 Go-Live date for the online portal.

Updates about a specific Go-Live date and links to the LGCCC portal will be posted here, on the Commission website, so check back periodically for more information.

The Commission oversees the operation of games conducted pursuant to the Bingo and Raffles Licensing Laws by approximately 7,000 charitable, educational, religious, patriotic, public-spirited organizations and senior citizen associations and organizations currently registered to conduct legalized games of chance, such as bingo games and raffles, throughout the state. Along with determining an organization's eligibility to conduct legalized games of chance and registering the organizations, the Commission is responsible for enforcing the laws that presently govern the multi-million-dollar-a-year industry, commonly known as charitable gaming.

The Commission also oversees the operations of approximately 700 Amusement Game licensees operating amusement games and arcades at amusement parks, seashore or other resorts, agricultural exhibits (county fairs), and qualified bowling alleys. In addition, the Commission reviews, approves, and issues certifications for all of the amusement games, including crane/claw machines, offered for play in the State of New Jersey. The Amusement Licensing Law, the Bingo and Raffle Licensing Laws, and the rules and regulations of the Commission are enforced by inspections and investigations of licensees and licensed events.

For more information, call the Commission at (973) 273-8000 or write to the commission at P.O. Box 46000, Newark, New Jersey 07101.
