The Internet is an amazingly useful and versatile tool that has become indispensable for work, education, entertainment, and staying connected with family and friends. Used responsibly and carefully, it is an invaluable resource.

Industry reports and everyday experience make it abundantly clear, however, that online security threats continue to grow and evolve. Malware and phishing have become ever more sophisticated, and hackers continue to develop new attacks targeting email, social networking sites, and mobile devices.

This website includes important consumer protection information including: Basic steps for protecting the information on your computer and other devices; and more detailed information on preventing identity theft, controlling your privacy, and cyber security tips for businesses.

Also included are additional resources that provide alerts on the very latest emerging threats, as well as much more detailed consumer information.

In its mission to empower consumers, the Division of Consumer Affairs also offers a Cyber Security Handbook and other useful materials; and maintains a very active calendar of Consumer Outreach Events.
